We are asked around this time of year to move our attitudes and actions into a state of giving.  I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel like this is forced upon us – ready or not.  The first signs, of course, are the retail stores begging  for our attention to take notice of the very early displays of the holiday season.  I’m never ready for this. In fact, I hide my eyes and shake my head – it’s just too soon. 

This morning, while getting ready for work, I was thinking about what I want to do before the holidays.  Meaning, what procedures, what maintenance treatments do I need to take care of to prepare myself for the next couple of months and the new year ahead.  I want to not only look good but I really want to feel good.  We can’t get into the spirit of giving until we are feeling good about ourselves.  For me, I feel like some microdermabrasion treatments, new products, a little bit of botox and a laser leg vein treatment would do it.  Isn’t it amazing how differently we relate to others when we are in a better state of mind about ourselves…I have so much more to give, and my attitude is joyful rather than sometimes angry.  Being an angry giver is one of the worst feelings.  No one benefits. 

Taking care of  each other is very important – and so rewarding.  But we cannot give what we do not have.  Self-care must be a priority.  Especially in this economy – it’s one of the only things we have control over.  And what a difference in our outlook when we have “prepared” ourselves for giving.  If we no longer feel we are in lack – our generosity towards others is open and freely given.  The benefit is felt both ways. 

What do you need this holiday season?  What do you need even today?  This week?  Sometimes it’s the little things – and sometimes it’s the bigger things.  Whatever it is – own it.  Make it yours.  Prepare yourself now to begin the ripple effect of later.  The benefit is felt both ways…
