A Time for Serious Cat Thinking

Posted in Oscars Blog at 4:01 am by Oscar

Oscar here,

I’ve been doing some thinking — what — you didn’t know cats thought?!  Wait ’til you read what I have to say before your make up your mind. :)

My person (the doctor) just posted some pithy thoughts about Thanksgiving (and even managed to work in Christmas ‘n stuff) and it’s pretty good.

But … I have a different slant on it all.  Now before you get all disbelieving and all — know that my person-the-doctor has a significant library, and even he doesn’t know what I’m doing while he’s off sucking fat or fixing people who hate looking old … you know … all the ones about to turn 60. He thinks I spend my day chasing that cool fuzzy ball (well I do actually) but I also read!  He’s got tons of stuff printed up on his desk and lots of books.

So here’s my take on Thanksgiving (or the state of feeling thankful):

  • Psychologists say it’s impossible to feel grateful and unhappy at the same time.  Think about that one long and hard.
  • The feeling of gratitude comes from appreciation for life itself … or
  • Deciding to focus on what is right in your life instead of what’s missing.
  • Sometimes (if you get really wound up in this stuff) the ability of just being aware of yourself at all can give you a sense of profound gratitude (if it doesn’t give you the willies at first).  What I’m sayin’ is our actual existence is nothing short of miraculous.  Now that’s something to be grateful for.  Why waste it by being ungrateful?
  • Feeling grateful means you feel you have enough to be happy.  But that’s not enough.  Ya gotta pass it along.  Let someone know you’re grateful for them too.
  • Medical folks tell us people who feel grateful are less prone to depression. (Got that from an article on my person’s desk.)

Finally, there was a very old Chinese cat (Lao Tzu) who once said …

If you look to others for fulfillment, you will never truly be fulfilled.

If your happiness depends on money, you will never be happy with yourself.

Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are.

When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.

I’m just sayin’ ….

Oh — and Happy Holidays!

Later,

Oscar

PS: got a lot of my stuff from an article on my person’s desk from the people at Spiritual Wealth (www.spiritualwealth.com) so I’m giving credit where credit’s due.

'Tis the Season … again

Posted in Main at 6:32 am by Doctor

Yep, it’s Thanksgiving again … soon to be followed by many religious and secular events we still call “Christmas”.  No, I’m not cynical or jaded (until I walk around the Mall and see desperate moves of businesses tying the Spirit of the Season to “stuff”) — that gets me a little riled up.

On the other hand, we want to show those in our lives we care, that we love them — and one of the ways is by gifts — hopefully well thought out, personalized, and done in great fun. :)

And then there are the kids … the anticipatory look in their eyes at the sheer magic of it all.

Kinda makes it all worth it for us adults, as it brings back memories of similar times long ago in our own lives.  At about 7 years of age I recall a deeply rooted fear I’d actually die before Christmas came — and I’d miss it — such was its importance to me.

But — this is about Thanksgiving, not about gift giving in December.  One only has to look at the news a bit to register the horror going on in the world around us — won’t go into it — you get my point.

And for some of us this year saw personal tragedy and loss — myself included — leaving us with just memories of how closely we held those in our hearts … and being thankful for them … even if they aren’t with us or part of our lives anymore.

Thankfulness makes forgiveness unnecessary, though sometimes they go hand in hand.

WE have a lot to be thankful for.  Being alive and able to care for those around us … being able to nurture and be a blessing to strangers and friends alike.  Thankful for new beginnings.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each of you — my patients and clients over the last 27 years here at the corner of Broad and Allentown Road (our offices) for having enriched my life — each and every one of you has touched me in some way … and it hasn’t gone unnoticed. For you see, the art and practice of medicine is not one-way — I have been the recipient of so much from each one of you — and it’s time to thank you for your trust and for letting me be a part of your lives in some way.

So … thank you. :)

Less than perfect…is just perfect

Posted in Main at 10:30 am by Director

Its taken me awhile to get started on this blog.  I knew what I wanted to say – but didn’t want to start til it was “just perfect”.  So ironic – huh?  We hold ourselves to such a high standard that even we can’t meet our expectations.  How in the world can anyone else?

We’re always searching for the perfect car, home, job, and  relationships.  Our bodies need to be perfect before we’ll ever accept them or be kind to them. If our children aren’t behaving perfectly or performing in school or sports the way we think they should – its a problem. Is that really the problem?  Or is it this mindset that creates the problem?

What would it be like for just one week to stand back and allow all things to be as they are and all people to be who they are – instead of always trying to make the situation or the person something it’s not.  Full acceptance of everyone and everything.  It is what it is…

One of the first things I think you’ll discover is gratitude.  Everything becomes clearer when our expectations of perfection are gone – we can see the real person, situation and circumstances.  When you look in the mirror the person staring back at you is grateful that you are able to realize and appreciate all of the little things that distinguish you from everyone else.  These small imperfections make you unique and very very special.  When you look at your children, you realize they are magnificent – just as they are!  Life is so much harder these days for our children – and to see them striving every day just to be who they are… is so wonderful.  Our daily as well as our intimate relationships will begin thriving again as we remove the pressure off of them.  Loving someone for exactly who they are is one of the greatest gifts you could ever give them.  It enables them to grow and blossom into the beautiful person they were meant to be…without any resistance or conditions.

Something else you’ll experience is a sense of peace.  Everything is as it should be.  If things were supposed to be different – they would be.  Out of this peace comes acceptance – and from acceptance our resistance has no power.  We are free!  Free to live a life of less than perfect – which I think… is just perfect!

Let no one come to you without leaving better…

Your Insurance … and Dermatology Care

Posted in Main at 5:07 pm by Doctor

Yes, it’s true.  Even though the emphasis on this website concerns you and your self image, your self confidence, and how you easily can change how you look — even to the extent of removing years from your face naturally …

You also may have concerns falling into the category of General Dermatology.

You know — skin exams for skin cancer, warts, moles, eczema, psoriasis, lumps and bumps of concern (or just plain annoying), and everything under the sun you would go to a dermatologist to have taken care of.

Do you know we take care of this too?

And … we take your insurance to cover your non-cosmetic dermatology care!

Everything under one roof.  And what a roof!  Your atmosphere more that of a Medi-Spa than a traditional medical clinic … with relaxing music, tasteful art, and attentive staff who listen carefully to any concern you have.

And all skin surgery done on site too.  No need to go anywhere else.

So come on in, grab a cup of exotic coffee or tea and enjoy your visit — cosmetic services — or general dermatology (under your insurance plan).

It doesn’t get any better than that. :)

See you soon,

The Economy

Posted in Main at 1:11 pm by Doctor

Lots of concern with the economy — yet we are seeing lots of clients investing in themselves anyway.  Sure, for plenty of our clients the economy is but a nuisance and doesn’t impact their buying decisions.

But what about you?  Are you on the fence because even though you’d love to have a certain procedure — you know, SmartLipo, Fraxel, or laser hair removal — you can’t bring yourself to lay out the money right now?

After all — Christmas (and all he other wonderful religious Holidays) is just around the corner and we all know how expensive that can be.

So what’s a person to do?  One word.

CareCredit.  Or for the complete name … CareCredit Healthcare Finance.  And we are members.

With a simple phone call you can be approved and on your way to the procedure of your dreams.

They have all sorts of payment plans — even some with NO interest.

Now you have no excuse not to jump on what your heart says you deserve.

Give Renee in our office a call and she’ll explain everything.

  • "My daughter sees Kristie for microdermabrasion treatments for stubborn blackheads. We had tried many prescription items and Proactiv®. We saw little results. We scheduled a consultation to see what other treatments might help the process of clearing up those stubborn blackheads. Kristie recommended microdermabrasion and after the first 2 treatments a great improvement was noticed and improvement continues with each treatment. Kristie's friendly personality put my daughter right at ease."

  • "I am very pleased with the results of Botox and Restylane! I had 3 deep grooves in between my eyes from squinting (a hereditary thing from my father) and it bothered me! My dad's and aunt's grooves are so big they can hold a dime in the slots. Before my lines got like that, I came to see Dr. Fairfield. He did Restylane and I am so happy with the results! Don't hesitate if it bothers you! The staff and Dr. Fairfield are wonderful and they are here for you! Thanks!"

  • "I've had three Fraxel treatments so far and already see tremendous improvement. The overall texture of my skin is smooth and clear of red spots. The deep crevices from nose down to chin is much less pronounced and best of all I can curl my eyelashes again. So, my brows were lifted too!

Amy, Sherley and Kristie were competent and caring as usual.

So with one more treatment to go I believe I can stave off having a thread lift for five or more years."
