The Day the Phones Went Down

Posted in Oscars Blog at 5:12 am by Oscar

Hi — Oscar here,

It’s true — for an hour or two last week the phone lines dropped off — one by one — until the Center for Aesthetics was dead in the water.

Lavonne even called her number using her cellphone and got the message, “That number is no longer in service.”  Now, how scary is that?

Frantic calls to Verizon by Debbie (the office manager) found out the reason.  Verizon had been sending our bills to an ancient Post Office Box (no longer in use) … get this … for a year!  They even sent payment reminders to this address (with bounced mail I might add) thinking somehow we could intuit they were trying to contact us.

But from a cat’s perspective — and we think logically — no food in bowl … go yawn mightily in my person’s face (the doctor) so he fills my bowl.  Simple, and effective.

But do you think Verizon — a PHONE COMPANY — would use (god forbid) a PHONE — to find out why they weren’t being paid?  Of course not.  In the corporate world that would be too simple, too logical, too likely to produce results.

Should my person’s bookkeeper have picked this up?  Yep — but she didn’t.

Anyway — it was fixed by wire transfer of the money due … and my person will watch like a hawk (that expression bothers me a little — scary birds) to see if the morons at Verizon gets the address right from now on.

And all the phone lines are alive and kicking once again.

As my buddy Forest Gump once said, “Litter box happens!” (Come on — this is a family blog!)

So the lesson is: never trust corporate … and if you want something done right — do it yourself.

That’s how I operate. :)

Did somebody turn up the heat?

Posted in Main at 10:19 am by Director

Have you been noticing what I’ve been noticing lately?  Does your skin feel more dry, and do your fine lines seem more apparent?  Just a small change in the weather and turning the heat on in our homes and cars can make a big difference in how our skin feels. Unfortunately, this is the time of year when we have to be more careful to moisturize and protect against the changing weather.  As a reminder we need to:

1.  Keep exfoliation to a minimum

2.  Minimize the use of washcloths and loofahs

3.  Use a moisturizing soap or cleanser/bodywash to cleanse the face and body

4.  Wash with lukewarm water

5.  Use a moisturizer with antioxidants for the face and body after bathing and when you feel dry

6.  Use UVA protection on a daily basis for face, neck, and hands

7.   Keep room temperature around 66 degrees at night while sleeping to keep moisture in the air

Namaste,

Lavonne :)

WOW! What a Day…

A big Thank You to everyone who participated in our Fall Botox Event yesterday.  It was like Christmas!  Gift certificates, goodie bags, magazines, food, wine, and 20% off Botox treatments.  The office was buzzing all day.

If you’ve never been to one of our events you’ve truly missed out!  We definately know how to throw a party.

Look for announcements for future upcoming events at the Center for Aesthetics.  Don’t miss out on a great opportunity to get to know us better – and besides… we’d love to meet you!

Namaste,

Lavonne :)

What … or in whom … do you believe?

Posted in Main at 3:05 am by Doctor

Serious topic today.  Don’t really know what brought it on unless it was the profound observation I made during responses to political debate how many people don’t believe — in anything.  This means they also don’t make decisions of substance, or of meaning.

Imagine a world full of people so afraid of their own shadows they can’t make a decision.  Don’t know their own mind … or if they do … don’t dare say it because of what someone else will say about them, or so they think.

It’s all about personal boundaries and believing something … anything … and sticking to it until the belief is refined or changed by rational (more) thinking or even life’s experiences itself — a great teacher.

For instance, I believe in God.  Don’t really care if you do or not, though I might recommend you explore it if we were face to face and you were facing some of life’s complex problems.

I’ve seen death far too many times as a family physician and ER doctor (years of it) before becoming a dermatologist (more ER work to support that residency).  Held dying babies in my arms, cried with wives when their spouses were suddenly taken, held the hands of the elderly … eyes locked until the telltale smile of peace settled on their face signaled their “leaving.”

You see, the passing of a soul is just that … a passing.  I’ve not seen the lights just going out — far too perceptive on my part (without projection — gimme a break).  Life leaves a body, yet lives.  Where?  Who knows?  The ancients call the place “up there” presumably when they thought the world flat.  Now, in our sci-fi world we love the notion of another parallel dimension.  Maybe that’s where they are and why we can at times feel their presence so strongly.

A friend whom I love and respect a great deal gets tears in her eyes contemplating the deaths of those she’s known … imagining a string of lights, each one representing a lost one.  But they’re still there for her.

It’s not germane to answer the metaphysical “where do passed souls go” in this blog but I do want to urge you to believe in something — to provide an anchor for other firmly held beliefs, to grow in the habit of making decisions … to move forward using stepping stones of lousy decisions as learning tools to keep your personal march through life going forward and to be happy (content-on-purpose) — and maybe, even successful.

For not to believe in something … and not to make decisions, leads to a living death — far worse that the event of death itself.

[I invite comment from readers, as always, especially on this one.]

To life!  L’Chaim!

40 Is the New 20! Or Is It?

Posted in Main at 11:12 am by Director

I keep telling myself that!  I’m not sure it’s working just yet.  Yes, I have to confess – I turned forty just a few short weeks ago.  I didn’t have any anxiety leading up to the “big day” but after it was all over, I really started to analyze things.  Mainly my physical appearance.

Being in this industry, I have so many options available to me.  I can have my fat pockets removed, leg veins erradicated, wrinkles softened, and all the unwanted hair I despise so much  – removed for good!  Having said that, I still, like everyone else struggle with aging.

This is what I’m learning lately.  The only thing in the world you can change is yourself – and that makes all the difference in the world.  We spend so much time beating ourselves up over things that we cannot control.  Things that are quite frankly “outside of our boat.”  Not only do we beat ourselves up – but everyone around us too.  This does not make for a peaceful existence.  And…the people around us simply become frustrated.  Take a step back – way back – and look long and hard at what you can do or change doing that will bring honor to yourself.  Don’t worry about what anyone else is doing.  Just YOU!   It takes a lot of hard work and patience with ourselves to look inside and get down to the bottom of our buckets and find out why our bucket is empty or dry.  Could it simply be, that we just haven’t taken the needed time and effort for replenishing what’s missing?  I encourage you to be selfish.  Or better yet – self caring.  Taking the time, effort and yes maybe money to do things that honor YOU.  It could be anything from your favorite Starbucks coffee drink to a new pair of sunglasses.  Buying fresh cut flowers for your home  or maybe  getting a massage.  How about a microdermabrasion and some new products.  Anything big or small that shows the universe you matter.  You are worthy and deserve good things!

I encourage you this week to make a list of things that you can do to honor yourself and replenish your well being.  I promise you – when you make the effort and follow through you will be rewarded.  :)

Namaste,

Lavonne

Saw an ad yesterday …

Posted in Main at 4:56 am by Doctor

I usually mute or skip ads on TV but this one snuck through.  It was for a weight reduction pitch, but what the woman said hit me between the eyes.

You see, she related what the extra “bulges” meant to her emotionally.

The words she used were, “shame” and “insecurity.”

Wow … and I thought “loss of self confidence” and “low self esteem” were punchy enough!

Fat we don’t want — or can’t get rid of is like that — hits right to the core doesn’t it?

I know because I had nasty love handles and a little bulge that refused to budge — and I actually used my gym membership!

SmartLipo (by myself and staff) solved the problem in a matter of hours and I had a full clinical schedule the next day — didn’t slow me down a bit.

The results?  I won’t hesitate to step into the spa next time … won’t have to “suck it in” when I take my shirt off at the beach.  I actually discovered I cared how I looked in this area and was avoiding fun stuff because of it.

Not … any … more.  Oh — and I went from a 35 to a 33 inch waist.

Women we’ve done (one works at our front desk and you can ask her) — went from a 14 to an 8.

Now that’s what I call body contouring!

So … if the words: shame, insecurity, low self esteem, and poor self confidence relate at all to fat on your tummy, neck, arms, knees, inner thighs, saddlebags, banana rolls (if you don’t know what those are you don’t have them!) or anywhere else the darn stuff accumulates then SmartLipo is your answer.

I’m really busy transforming people with SmartLipo — no really — I’m not kidding just to get you to call.

If you want in for a rockin’ bod for the Holidays you’d better call now for a consult and see what all the fuss is all about.

I’ll model my tummy for you (with my shirt on). :)

Yours for a secure and shame-less YOU.

Testimonials

  • "My daughter sees Kristie for microdermabrasion treatments for stubborn blackheads. We had tried many prescription items and Proactiv®. We saw little results. We scheduled a consultation to see what other treatments might help the process of clearing up those stubborn blackheads. Kristie recommended microdermabrasion and after the first 2 treatments a great improvement was noticed and improvement continues with each treatment. Kristie's friendly personality put my daughter right at ease."

  • "I had Botox at another doctor's office and it did not take. I came here to Dr. Fairfield's office and was so pleased with the results. I am fifty two years old and not many people believe it. I feel much happier when I look into the mirror these days. I also drive over fifty miles to get here one way, but it is worth it!"

  • "I am very pleased with the results of Botox and Restylane! I had 3 deep grooves in between my eyes from squinting (a hereditary thing from my father) and it bothered me! My dad's and aunt's grooves are so big they can hold a dime in the slots. Before my lines got like that, I came to see Dr. Fairfield. He did Restylane and I am so happy with the results! Don't hesitate if it bothers you! The staff and Dr. Fairfield are wonderful and they are here for you! Thanks!"

  • "I've had three Fraxel treatments so far and already see tremendous improvement. The overall texture of my skin is smooth and clear of red spots. The deep crevices from nose down to chin is much less pronounced and best of all I can curl my eyelashes again. So, my brows were lifted too!

Amy, Sherley and Kristie were competent and caring as usual.

So with one more treatment to go I believe I can stave off having a thread lift for five or more years."
