FREE Fraxel treatment coming your way ….

Posted in Main at 5:53 am by Doctor

Keep your eyes on this blog to find out how you can qualify for a complimentary (FREE) Fraxel treatment this summer.

It’ll be the best way for you to find out just how much Fraxel can do for your skin.  Fraxel has been in the news again — and is now considered the Gold Standard for skin rejuvenation with minimal-to-NO downtime.

Brown spots, skin sagging, “age spots”, fine lines and wrinkles, even acne scars and Melasma (the mask of pregnancy) is fair game for Fraxel.

Though complete results are best seen after a series of treatments — significant positive changes can be seen even with a single treatment.

And now — you’ll have the opportunity to take a test-drive for no cost!

I had my Fraxel series in the summer — was in the garden the next day with my sunscreen on.  So this is a treatment that’s evergreen — all year ’round!

Watch this blog — and your email for further announcements about this unprecedented opportunity.

And if you’re not on our email list to cash in on opportunities like this, just call Debbie at 215-361-5030 and give her your email address.  We don’t spam, sell, or share your email information.  It’s safe with us.

Keep watching!

A Pebble in Your Shoe

Posted in Main at 7:00 am by Doctor

Ever have a pebble in your shoe?  You can’t focus, can’t walk, can’t concentrate.  All else stops until you get it out.

That precisely, my friends … is what “things that bug us” about our appearance, about that bulge, about the wrinkle … or brown spots … is all about.

They cause us to pause, hold back, lose our focus … or concentration.  Especially if what we do is in the public eye — like me, for instance.

So we take the pebble out!  You see it’s not vanity at all.  It’s the distraction of not looking the best we can.

Here’s my list of what I’ve had done: Botox for crows feet and forehead wrinkles, a series of Fraxel laser treatments for facial skin sagging, and SmartLipo (recall I did myself) for love handles I did-not-love.

Why?  The technology is available … it works extremely well … minimal-to-no downtime (saw a full schedule of clients the day after my SmartLipo) and my work is with people so I want to put my best look out there.

No distraction from my self imposed pebbles.

Self confidence comes from many sources from within.  No point in allowing what’s annoying about how we look – to distract us from our primary mission of success — whether it’s with friends or occupation or career.

Those pebbles need to be dealt with.

Besides, as we age, it’s fun to keep ‘em guessing why we stay so young looking. :)

All the best,

Memorial Day from a Naturalized Citizen's Perspective

Posted in Main at 6:10 am by Doctor

I am from Canada, “born and raised,” as they say.  Years ago, after carrying a Green Card long enough, I became a naturalized US citizen.  I carry, along with myriad other naturalized citizens, a slightly different perspective on citizenship than those native born.

The notion of individual freedom … to pursue happiness … is perhaps the most important principle — at least for me.

American freedom has been bought at a terrible price — the lives of countless named and unnamed young soldiers.

Memorial Day (formerly Decoration Day) has its roots in the Civil War — being established to commemorate Union soldiers who fell.

Since then, wars and conflicts have taken their toll on American lives fighting to preserve freedom — for this was always their mandate, the political reasons immaterial and fodder for debate over decades.  For the soldiers … it has always been about preservation of freedom.  It is they who have fallen in this pursuit who are honored this weekend.

I’ve noticed a curious phenomenon over decades of medical practice with WWII vets.  They’re never without some evidence of their experience.  Tattered VFW hats, even medals pinned to civilian clothing.  Their identity as participants in war is indelibly burned into their very being.  Less so with those involved in the Korean conflict … and non-existent in Viet Nam vets, their memories rather buried than celebrated … not of their own doing but that of a national stigma not deserved for those who marched under orders.  Being a soldier is apolitical — for the cause … for them … is freedom.

Politics sends these men and women into harms way but politics should never define how we feel about their ultimate sacrifice.  For soldiers the issue is simple … fight and die willingly for freedom’s cause.

Memorial Day is about the soldiers, not about politics.  That we have a country at all, that we engage in our daily lives in the pursuit of happiness is in great part due to the countless lost on the field of battle.

So … we remember … and are grateful.

I’m Baaack!

Posted in Oscars Blog at 4:56 am by Oscar

Oscar here,

Been away on a hiatus — had to get used to new digs.  My person (the doctor) and I moved to a very cool new place … lots of windows for me to guard the fortress from.

I haven’t forgotten my loyal readers though — love to keep in touch.

Met a new cat online the other day — okay so I’m neutered — get used to it — still like new friends.

Her name is Addy (not a bad looking kitty if I do say so myself) and her person is Amy at New Beauty magazine.

My person and his practice are going to be featured in New Beauty in July.

Now is that cool or what?

Stay tuned for more … gotta go patrol.

Sneak Peek at Us in New Beauty Magazine

Posted in Main at 4:40 am by Doctor

Yep — we’re in the upcoming July issue of New Beauty magazine so be sure to look for it at newsstands and bookstores everywhere.

Here’s a snippet of what they wrote about us — pretty cool.

Years of Excellence … a Better You

At the Center for Aesthetics, Dr. Fairfield integrates multiple modalities, believing that providing distinguished care requires more than just performing procedures.  The first step involves understanding what specifically is contributing to a client’s concerns … and then taking steps to remedy the problem.  Dr. Fairfield says, ” Our focus is on holistic wellness.  Along with procedures we integrate medical grade skin care products to optimize results, even offering skin-specific vitamins for total skin health.”

“We believe that wellness encompasses more than just the restoration of youthful looking skin.  Our approach is driven by client interaction and individualized solutions.”

There’s a lot more … but you’ll have to check out the magazine to see the rest. :)

C-Section Scars … and the problems they cause

Posted in Main at 7:05 am by Doctor

Millions have had a C-section and at the time all the focus was on a good outcome.

Then, years pass … perhaps other scars added … and a new phenomenon arises.

You see, with time our fat redistributes — accumulating in pockets unresponsive to either diet or exercise.

Allow me to digress a little …

Far back, C-section scars were vertical — and I still see some today, usually done due to extreme emergency.  Back in the days of my first residency in Family Practice and when on the OB service I did C-sections and was told by my attending physicians that the new way was to do an incision in a low curve — so as easily to be hidden by clothing and bikinis.  Down that low the skin has very little underlying fat, and the scars would heal with adherence to underlying tissue.  So far, so good.

Now, back to fat.  Think about it … fat accumulating — and through no fault of your own now rolls over the C-section scar — forming an unsightly bulge precisely where you’d rather not have one.  Remember the adherence of the scar?  It’s fixed … doesn’t move … and presents a barrier for fat resulting in that annoying and unsightly bulge.

The same holds for any abdominal scar.  If there’s fat around, it will bulge — frequently on both sides of fixed abdominal scars.

Creates some interesting images, doesn’t it?

Are you stuck with hiding these scars and bulges?  Do you wear loose clothing to spare you embarrassment?  The rest of your figure would support a bikini — but then — there’s that bulge.

And why am I — a cosmetic dermatologist — writing about this?

Because I’ve found a solution that’s very cool.  And it doesn’t involve going back to the OR, or having general anesthesia.  It doesn’t even involve more than a day of downtime — if any.

Hold on — I’ll tell you in a minute — but first, a story.

Years ago when traveling in a very foreign country (Canada — my homeland) I got ill, went to the ER in an obscure town, and the surgeon on call decided in his infinite wisdom I needed an exploratory laparotomy to figure out why I had belly pain.  I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt … but there’s a lot of water up there … and boats … big, expensive boats.

Where was I?  Oh yeah — my surgery.  Turned out I had lactose intolerance but now sported a long midline abdominal scar.

Fast forward to the present …

I was always annoyed at how, in recent years as I aged, that darned scar was bound down and the fat on either side bulged.  Remember in previous posts how my staff and I did my own SmartLipo laser liposuction?  Well, my scar is now flush with the rest of the skin, and the fat is gone.

But why …?

The SmartLipo laser breaks up the adhesion of scars which bind them down — freeing the scar to be just in the skin — flush with it.  The SmartLipo laser liquefies the fat … and then it’s suctioned off along with deeper fat.  Then, because SmartLipo also lasers the underside of the skin it tightens uniformly — no loose sagging skin.  It now lies flat against your newly contoured tummy.

Now that’s rockin’ cool!

The story’s not over!

So I began to focus on the C-section scars of women (like men have these?) while doing SmartLipo of tummy fat.  Low and behold, their experience paralleled mine.

Nice, smooth, bulge-free lower abdomens.  And the same held true for other scarred areas in those who had them.

One client told me her life was forever changed, that she never dreamed she was going to be able to wear a two piece again, much less a bikini.

She … went … shopping.

Now it’s your turn!

Believe me — we who have scars don’t have to be held hostage by our fat!  Not any more.

The answer is SmartLipo laser assisted liposuction.

And we have it right here at the Center for Aesthetics.

Call, come in, ask all of your questions, get evaluated … then join the rest of us smooth-bellies. :)

Your doctor,

James C. Fairfield, MD FAAD

Testimonials

  • "My daughter sees Kristie for microdermabrasion treatments for stubborn blackheads. We had tried many prescription items and Proactiv®. We saw little results. We scheduled a consultation to see what other treatments might help the process of clearing up those stubborn blackheads. Kristie recommended microdermabrasion and after the first 2 treatments a great improvement was noticed and improvement continues with each treatment. Kristie's friendly personality put my daughter right at ease."

  • "I am very pleased with the results of Botox and Restylane! I had 3 deep grooves in between my eyes from squinting (a hereditary thing from my father) and it bothered me! My dad's and aunt's grooves are so big they can hold a dime in the slots. Before my lines got like that, I came to see Dr. Fairfield. He did Restylane and I am so happy with the results! Don't hesitate if it bothers you! The staff and Dr. Fairfield are wonderful and they are here for you! Thanks!"

  • "I've had three Fraxel treatments so far and already see tremendous improvement. The overall texture of my skin is smooth and clear of red spots. The deep crevices from nose down to chin is much less pronounced and best of all I can curl my eyelashes again. So, my brows were lifted too!

Amy, Sherley and Kristie were competent and caring as usual.

So with one more treatment to go I believe I can stave off having a thread lift for five or more years."
