Millions have had a C-section and at the time all the focus was on a good outcome.
Then, years pass … perhaps other scars added … and a new phenomenon arises.
You see, with time our fat redistributes — accumulating in pockets unresponsive to either diet or exercise.
Allow me to digress a little …
Far back, C-section scars were vertical — and I still see some today, usually done due to extreme emergency. Back in the days of my first residency in Family Practice and when on the OB service I did C-sections and was told by my attending physicians that the new way was to do an incision in a low curve — so as easily to be hidden by clothing and bikinis. Down that low the skin has very little underlying fat, and the scars would heal with adherence to underlying tissue. So far, so good.Â
Now, back to fat. Think about it … fat accumulating — and through no fault of your own now rolls over the C-section scar — forming an unsightly bulge precisely where you’d rather not have one. Remember the adherence of the scar? It’s fixed … doesn’t move … and presents a barrier for fat resulting in that annoying and unsightly bulge.
The same holds for any abdominal scar. If there’s fat around, it will bulge — frequently on both sides of fixed abdominal scars.Â
Creates some interesting images, doesn’t it?
Are you stuck with hiding these scars and bulges? Do you wear loose clothing to spare you embarrassment? The rest of your figure would support a bikini — but then — there’s that bulge.
And why am I — a cosmetic dermatologist — writing about this?
Because I’ve found a solution that’s very cool. And it doesn’t involve going back to the OR, or having general anesthesia. It doesn’t even involve more than a day of downtime — if any.
Hold on — I’ll tell you in a minute — but first, a story.
Years ago when traveling in a very foreign country (Canada — my homeland) I got ill, went to the ER in an obscure town, and the surgeon on call decided in his infinite wisdom I needed an exploratory laparotomy to figure out why I had belly pain. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt … but there’s a lot of water up there … and boats … big, expensive boats.Â
Where was I? Oh yeah — my surgery. Turned out I had lactose intolerance but now sported a long midline abdominal scar.
Fast forward to the present …
I was always annoyed at how, in recent years as I aged, that darned scar was bound down and the fat on either side bulged. Remember in previous posts how my staff and I did my own SmartLipo laser liposuction? Well, my scar is now flush with the rest of the skin, and the fat is gone.Â
But why …?
The SmartLipo laser breaks up the adhesion of scars which bind them down — freeing the scar to be just in the skin — flush with it. The SmartLipo laser liquefies the fat … and then it’s suctioned off along with deeper fat. Then, because SmartLipo also lasers the underside of the skin it tightens uniformly — no loose sagging skin. It now lies flat against your newly contoured tummy.
Now that’s rockin’ cool!
The story’s not over!
So I began to focus on the C-section scars of women (like men have these?) while doing SmartLipo of tummy fat. Low and behold, their experience paralleled mine.
Nice, smooth, bulge-free lower abdomens. And the same held true for other scarred areas in those who had them.
One client told me her life was forever changed, that she never dreamed she was going to be able to wear a two piece again, much less a bikini.
She … went … shopping.
Now it’s your turn!Â
Believe me — we who have scars don’t have to be held hostage by our fat! Not any more.
The answer is SmartLipo laser assisted liposuction.
And we have it right here at the Center for Aesthetics.
