Tucked into lovely Upper Gwynedd Township, just around the corner from Blue Bell is a secret.  It’s a destination – found by models from New York City and Philadelphia, and clients from as far away as Scranton, Chester County and New Jersey as well. Yes, and it’s true — even people from Washington, DC — can’t say who they are — we maintain confidentiality!
Yet I still hear the phrase from clients who stumble on this oasis of caring, listening, and over-the-top results … “Wow! I didn’t know you were here!”
Now you know.
Welcome home.

Yes, Oscar the cat was in the news — AND written up in the New England Journal of Medicine. Confused? He’s my distant cousin (named after me I’m sure) and has unique empathy for humans about to pass in the nursing home in which he lives. Sensing the impending passing, he curls up beside the human, giving them comfort in their last hours.
Caring is one of our great qualities — us cats. I know — I care for my person Dr. Fairfield. If he doesn’t wake up with the alarm to feed me I sit on his chest patiently with my face about an inch away from his until his eyes open — cross eyed trying to figure out why an owl is in his face.
After feeding me I make sure he starts his writing work! You see, I too am a special Oscar.
Plus — as an editor told my person — I blog!!

Can coloring, processing hair cause thinning for women?
Yes, but not in the way most think. The diameter of individual hairs is unaffected. The problem comes from hair breakage — leading to the appearance of hair thinning — especially if the breakage is close to the scalp.
If so, how?
The sulfur bonds in the hair shafts are broken — leading to weakening and brittleness of the hair shaft. Repeated combing and manipulation then breaks the hair — much like a wire bent too often.
What are “safer,” organic or natural options to color,
In general, non-permanent coloration is best.
What about curling my hair?
Avoid excessive heat with curlers and irons, using larger curlers, going for a wave rather than tight curls.
Can I cover gray without damaging my hair?
Covering gray is best done with tints — again of the non-permanent variety, leaving the sulfur bonds intact.
Â
Don’t forget — direct and prolonged exposure to summer sun also bleaches and weakens hair — contributing to brittleness and breakage.

Hi – it’s me, Oscar. The other morning I was patrolling my person’s back yard and this Fox-with-an-attitude came at me with unseemly intentions. My person had left an opening in the sliding screen door just large enough for me when I’m flat out at 30 mph and the fox hit the screen, then screamed at my person while poking its head through the opening. Couldn’t see it myself from under the bed upstairs but I sure heard my person as he chased the thing away, arms flailing wildly. He sure is brave! Gotta lighten up on my patrolling.
Thanks for all the fan mail! Can’t respond to all due to my sleep requirements. Every time I think about responding I walk smack into a sunbeam on the floor and am forced to stop and snooze. But I appreciate the kind thoughts!
I notice many birds are no longer nesting and have been thinking of what happens when vacations are over. School’s just around the corner. Yeah – I know – it’s only mid July – but count the time left in weeks!
My person says summer’s a great time for many cosmetic procedures – fits in well with time off. By the time Fall rolls around things get really busy and there’s lines waiting to get in. Think about it!
Treat yourself! I do … all the time.
Speaking of treats … I wonder where my person is? He should be making that wonderful can-lid snap noise anytime soon!
Later – and watch out for those Fox days.

You see ads and offers for whiz bang fractionating lasers and wonder – do they mean Fraxel? Are they the same thing? The answer is a resounding “No”!Â
You see, so many doctors and spas are noticing the interest in cosmetic procedures that many laser companies have responded to make it easy for anybody to offer what sounds like the latest and greatest in technology.
A skin expert will make the investment in the real deal – such as the actual Fraxel SR 1500. Those who wish to take shorcuts will buy what is essentially a “box” with many handpieces available – in order not to invest in the lasers these handpieces imitate. In the case of Fraxel, they’ll buy a “fractionating handpiece” and claim it’s as good and produces the same results.
Well, imitation is a form of flattery. Unfortunately, for the consumer these devices simply can’t produce the same results and in fact – often produce circles and stripes – or worse yet - burns. To top it off many operate at wavelengths not considered fractional at all. But, it’s great marketing!
The true Fraxel is a device capable of being individualized to each client’s needs, operates safely and uniformly, and delivers outstanding results!
My advice? Go with the real deal and not the imitation.
The same goes for the doctor pitching cosmetic procedures. It’s in your best interests to consult a doctor with specialty training in skin. How can I say that? I’m Board Certified in both Family Practice and Dermatology and believe me there’s a world of difference in training and understanding of what’s best for your skin.
My advice is the same – trust your skin and its wellness to the real deal! You deserve it!
